FAQs:
Conferencing
Talking to more than one user at once.
What is a
conference?
Whereas an instant message
is a private, two-way communication between you and another
individual, a conference enables you and a group of other
individuals to talk to each other simultaneously.

How do I start
a conference?
Create a conference ‘room’
by starting an instant messaging conversation with the first
person you wish to invite, then clicking on the "Move to Conference"
button at the bottom of a conversation window. You will appear
first in the window, it may take a few seconds for the other
person to appear. You can then invite other users.
NB: You can only hold conferences
with other Bantu Messenger users. Therefore, you will not
see the ‘Move to Conference’ button if you are talking to
a user on another network e.g. MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ.
Bantu Messenger conference
rooms can be publicly accessible or private and invitation
only.

How do I invite
others into the conference?
To invite other users, go
to the ‘Invite to Conference’ option on the Messenger menu.
You will then see the ‘Invite to Conference’ window.
To invite a user who is on
your contact list, select them from the dropdown.
To invite a user who is not
on your contact list, you will need to enter their username.
NB: You can only invite other
contacts who are on the Bantu Messenger network.

How do I restrict
access to the conference room?
Users must be invited to join
the conference by users who are already in the conference.
You can also set the conference so that only the operator
can invite new users.

What are operator
and moderator status?
Operator status is the highest
level of administration rights. It gives the user the right
to promote other users to operator or moderator, ban users
from the room and kick active users out of the room.
In a moderated room, only
users with moderator status have permission to speak.
An operator has the ability
to assign moderator and operator status to other users using
the following commands entered at the outbound message prompt
in the room.
Status is assigned by typing
in commands:
- /op
'username' will grant operator permissions to that user
- /mod
'username' will grant moderator permissions to that user.

What does
the ignore function do?
Any participant in the conference
may choose to ignore another participant. They will not see
the messages typed by the person they have chosen to ignore.
This is a feature of consumer chat conferences, useful if
a participant is ‘flaming’ other participants (being abusive).
