Extensive, Reliable Scalability

Organizations that adopt EIM quickly grow to depend on its 24x7 availability, and its productivity and decision-making benefits. Their employees can’t imagine doing business without it. That’s why reliable scalability is so important.

Working closely with customers that have large, demanding user bases, we designed the Bantu Platform for maximum, reliable scalability. Today, it boasts the industry’s largest EIM deployment: it serves 1.4 million registered users of the award-winning U.S. Army Knowledge Online portal.

Built to Scale

Scalability means nothing if users can’t reliably access their EIM, and administrators can’t easily manage increasing usage. We built the Bantu Platform in a way that enables customers—ranging from small to extensive deployments—to effectively scale:

  • Low-bandwidth: Its browser-based client enables Bantu EIM to work with limited impact on network resources. This helped make Bantu particularly attractive for the U.S. Navy Knowledge Online portal, projected to have over 350,000 registrants by the end of 2003—many of whom access Bantu EIM while at sea, often aboard ships with low-bandwidth connections to shore.
  • Client reliability regardless of network stability: Even with poor network conditions, i.e., multiple interruptions due to failed connections, you remain connected to Bantu Message Server and your messages will be delivered without interruption.
  • Modular platform: Bantu EIM components are modular, enabling you to add servers to scale for usage requirements. For smaller organizations the Platform can be installed on a single, standard Windows, Solaris or Linux machine. For larger organizations, each of Bantu’s virtual servers (Messaging, Presence and Alerts) can be installed and scaled over separate physical servers.
  • Load-balancing: Bantu includes software-based, highly flexible load balancing which ensures 24x7x365 availability. Its maintenance tools also enable administrators to maintain the system without ever having to bring it down. Bantu’s load-balancing enables you to decommission servers and then automatically move users to other available servers as they log on.
